They All Said It Was Done For Love is not just a novel, it is a lifeline, a mirror, and a voice for the unheard. With the launch of her debut book on 5 June 2025, local author Kgomotso Molefe opens both her heart and her pages to the world, offering a powerful fictional story rooted in raw personal truth.
The novel follows Michelle, a woman scarred by betrayal, trauma and abandonment, but also shaped by her strength, healing and will to survive. While Michelle is a fictional character, the emotion behind her story is deeply real. “This book wasn’t something I planned, it was something I needed,” says Kgomotso. “Michelle gave me the space to say everything I never said out loud.” That honesty is what gives the novel its pull: it does not read as a story invented from a distance, but as one written from inside the experience it describes.
Kgomotso’s journey to this book is itself part of its story. A self-taught writer, she began what would become They All Said It Was Done For Love as a short story at just 16 years old. It grew into a full novel after a traumatic event changed her life at 20, and now, at 30, she is ready to release her truth, unfiltered and on her own terms. That long gestation shows in the weight the book carries: this is not a quickly assembled debut but one that has been lived with, revised, and carried through different stages of the author’s own healing.
True to that need for ownership, Kgomotso chose to self-publish rather than hand her story over to anyone else. “I didn’t want anyone editing my truth. This story is mine, every chapter, every word.”
Beyond writing, Kgomotso is a dedicated single mother to a three-year-old boy and the founder of Sanctum by True, a small candle wellness business built on the same mission of healing that runs through her novel. Through Michelle’s story, she hopes readers will come to better understand how abuse begins, how it scars generations, and how survivors can find the strength to reclaim their peace.
For readers drawn to fiction that treats trauma and healing with honesty rather than sentimentality, They All Said It Was Done For Love offers more than a story to read; it offers a companion for anyone who has ever needed to say something they never said out loud. As Kgomotso puts it, to anyone wanting to write, your story matters more than you know.
